Z Sensor Troubleshooting Guide
This guide is designed to help you troubleshoot your Z Sensor on your own before escalating to SmartSense Support.
The blinking LED lights can be used to diagnose any problems that may occur on your Z Sensor. Using the following chart, you can identify and solve issues.

Red Failure LED |
Not registered to the SmartSense Dashboard | No signal | Failed to communicate with wireless radio module | N/A |
Status Light Double Blink
The device is working and reports are transmitting, but there is a weak signal. Devices may be operational or may miss reports at this signal strength. If you are missing many reports, the devices will need to establish a better connection. This can be accomplished by moving the Z Sensor and Gateway closer together or removing any obstructions between the two devices.
Information Double Blink
The batteries on your device are getting low. Replace the lithium-ion AA batteries to avoid potential reporting interruptions. The two batteries should be the same kind (e.g., Energizer Advanced Lithium) to ensure the Z Sensor operates as expected. These batteries last 2-5 years depending on report frequency and signal strength.
Failure Light Signal Blink
Your Z Sensor was likely not registered to your account. Without being registered the device won't be allowed to communicate. Please call the Support Team at 1-866-806-2653 or contact us here.
Double Blink Failure Light
The Z Sensor can't find the Gateway. The devices may be too far apart or may have obstructions blocking the signal.
All Three Lights Turn On and then Off without Pressing Anything
If you see this behavior it can indicate condensation on the board. If located inside a freezer, please remove the device and allow it to dry. You can prevent condensation from forming by using a 100% sealed FDA bag with desiccant. If the device still has issues after drying, please contact the Support Team.
No Lights Turn On
The batteries may have died. Try replacing them with lithium-ion AA batteries (e.g., Energizer Advanced Lithium).
