Z Sensor troubleshooting guide
This guide is designed to help you troubleshoot your Z Sensor on your own before escalating to SmartSense Support.
The blinking LED lights can be used to diagnose any problems that may occur on your Z Sensor. Using the following chart, you can identify and solve issues.
| LED REFERENCE GUIDE | ||||
| LED | 1 Blink | 2 Blinks | 3 Blinks | Fast Blinking |
|
Green Status LED |
Last transmission successful | Last transmission successful, but low signal | N/A | Attempting to transmit to a Gateway |
|
Yellow Information LED |
No external sensor | Low battery | N/A | N/A |
|
Red Failure LED |
Not registered to the SmartSense Dashboard | No signal | Failed to communicate with wireless radio module | N/A |
- If you see one green blink, the Z Sensor is transmitting reports as expected. No action is needed
- If you see two green blinks, the Z Sensor's last transmission was successful, but the signal is low. This can result in a missed report and a better connection will need to be established by either moving the Z Sensor closer to the Gateway or removing any obstructions.
- If you see the green light blinking fast, the Z Sensor is attempting to transmit data to a Gateway. If this does not return to a normal single green blink, contact the Support Team for assistance.
- If you see one yellow blink, there is no external sensor.
- If you see two yellow blinks, the battery is low. You will need to replace with two lithium-ion AA batteries (e.g., Energizer Advanced Lithium) to ensure the Z Sensor is operating as expected. You may need to replace the batteries on your Z Sensor.
- If you see one red blink, the Z Sensor is not registered to your SmartSense account and will not communicate with your dashboard. Please contact the Support Team for assistance.
- If you see two red blinks, the Z Sensor cannot locate the Gateway and there is no signal. The sensor and gateway are either too far apart or there is an obstruction blocking the signal.
- If you see three red blinks, the Z Sensor failed to communicate with the wireless radio module.
All Three Lights Blink
If the green, yellow, and red lights blink simultaneously, this may indicate condensation on the board. If located inside a freezer, the Z Sensor should be immediately removed to dry.
You can prevent condensation from forming by using a 100% sealed FDA bag with desiccant. If the device still has issues after drying, please contact the Support Team.
No Lights Turn On
The batteries may have died. Try replacing them with lithium-ion AA batteries (e.g., Energizer Advanced Lithium) and tap the power button once to reconfigure. You may need to replace the batteries on your Z Sensor.
