SmartSense: Asset Management

This guide will assist you in understanding and managing assets as they relate to your SmartSense solution. An asset is a piece of equipment or an area being monitored that your sensor is attached to. The sensor monitors the asset's temperature to ensure that it is within the designated range.

When a sensor is attached to an asset or near an asset, it immediately begins reporting the temperature for that area. For example, to monitor a frozen food section of a grocery store a sensor would be attached inside the freezer. That freezer, its make and model, becomes the asset being monitored. Tags can be added to the asset for more specificity, such as "Ice Cream Freezer," "Walk-In Cooler," etc.

Here is some common terminology associated with asset management:

  • Asset: The area of equipment your sensor(s) are monitoring (ex. Freezer, Cooler, Compartment, Ambient Room, etc.)
  • Device: Refers to a sensor (B Sensor, Z Sensor, B Repeater, etc.) or gateway
  • Gateway: A device that transmits temperature or humidity data from the sensor to the SmartSense dashboard
  • Sensor: A device that takes asset temperature or humidity readings and passes them through the gateway
  • Excursion: Any temperature or humidity breach outside the designated range
  • Alarm: The designated threshold attached to an asset, which triggers a notification when breached (can be dependent on temperature, humidity, differential pressure, etc.)
  • Notification: A message sent to a designated individual via email, SMS text, or phone call to alert a user that an asset's alarm has been triggered
  • Tag: A label or keyword assigned to an asset (or assets) for the purpose of identifying and classifying


Managing Assets

  1. Navigate to app.smartsense.co and login using your credentials
  2. Select the Assets tab
  3. Choose the desired Region and Site from the dropdown menu in the upper left corner
  4. You may also choose a Region and Site from the branch button in the upper right corner
  5. This brings up the following dialogue box where you can make your selection
  6. The Filters button in the upper left corner can be used to locate specific assets, as well as save filters for easy browsing
  7. Assets are listed by Asset, Location, Active Alarms, Last Reading, Current Reading, and the highest and lowest temperature recorded in the past 24 Hours

  8. Select an asset to view Asset Details
  9. This will display an interactive graph of all temperature activity from the selected asset, up to one month prior
  10. The asset's Current Temperature, Current Humidity, Status, and Asset History are also listed
  11. Sensor information: Name, Device ID, Type, and Last Calibrated Date is listed near the bottom of the page
  12. Alarms Configured for this asset are listed below the sensor information
  13. You may add new alarms by clicking + New Alarm to the far right
