ZE Gateway: Ethernet Gateway Setup
This video will guide you through the hardware setup of the ethernet gateway.
Note: Your ZE Gateway may be labeled "SmartSense" or "TempAlert" depending on the age of the device.
To begin, you will need an ethernet cable and a router with an available ethernet port. Please note that if you plan to set the device to a manual or static I.P., you will need a computer with an available Ethernet port and ideally two ethernet cables.
First, we will go over the simpler setup of using DHCP or automatic I.P. addressing, which is recommended for the average user.
- Begin by plugging the ethernet cable into the internet port on the device.
- Connect the other end of the cable to your router.
- Power on the device by plugging it into a wall outlet.
- Wait for the Internet light on the device to blink once.
- Open your browser and log into app.smartsense.co.
- You should see your device on the device list with the recent activity.
For more advanced users, in order to set up the device with a static I.P., follow the following steps:
- Begin by plugging the ethernet cable into the PC port on the device.
- Connect the other end of the cable to your computer.
- Power on the device by plugging it into a wall outlet.
- Wait for the land light on the device to blink.
- On your PC, open a web browser and navigate to the address 10.99.99.1.
- You will be brought to the device setup page where you will be required to log in.
- The username is admin and the password is printed on the label on the underside of the device.
- If you have an additional ethernet cable, please connect it from the PC port to your router now.
- If you have only one cable then make this connection after saving your network settings and disconnecting from your computer.

- To the right of the 'Obtain WAN IP Via', click the drop-down and select 'Use Static IP'.
- After entering the network criteria, hit 'save network settings'.
- You can now remove the device from the PC as the setup has been completed.
- You should see a single blink on the internet light once the device has successfully connected.
- Log into app.smartsense.co.
- You should see your device on the device list with recent activity.
