Location Roles & User Management
This procedure explains the use and relationship between Users and Location Roles. Location Roles allow for quick and easy assignment of group level alarm notifications and ensure that Users are properly notified at the correct times via the correct notification type (SMS, phone, and/or email).
To get started, navigate to the ADMIN tab and select USER MANAGEMENT. In the right corner, select + CREATE NEW USER.
- When creating/editing a new or existing user, specify a location and location role for that user.
- A user will only receive notifications for the selected location and any locations or departments within the hierarchy.
- In the ASSIGNED TO LOCATION field, use the + button to locate the level of the organization the user needs alerts.
- Additional + buttons may appear as you drill down to the desired location or department.
Note: Leadership users may want to receive notifications for multiple locations or departments, and specialized teams may want to receive them for the whole organization.
- The location role allows you to specify when and how a user is notified of alerts at the selected location(s).
-
In the above example, TEST USER is configured to be notified for the LOCATION ROLE of “Operator” at the ASSIGNED TO LOCATION field (BOSTON).
- Location Roles can be created and named by Admin users as desired.
- Users can be assigned multiple Location Roles, allowing for multiple notifications.
5. A user should have all necessary contact information to ensure the successful delivery of all notifications.- In the above example, we see an SMS Number, Voice Number, and Email has been assigned.
- This ensures the user can be contacted via any of these notification methods.
Asset Alarms & Location Roles
Navigate to ADMIN > ORGANIZATION MANAGEMENT > ASSET ALARMS. Asset alarms determine when and how users with the assigned Location Role will be notified.
- In the TEST ALARM configuration, you can see when/how the Operator will be notified.
- Once the temperature rises over 100°F for one reading, the Operator will be notified via Email and SMS.
- Previously (Step 4 above), we provided an email address and SMS number
- This ensures that the Operator will successfully receive both notifications
- Any user with the Operator Location Role assigned to them will be notified via both email and SMS.
- If the Operator for that location changes or moves to a different location, edit the user to reflect those changes by:
- Selecting the new Location for the user AND/OR
- Updating the email/phone number for the existing user
- To stop this user from receiving alerts for the Location Role, delete the user or remove the Location Role.
