Digi SafeTemps: B Gateway Transportation Kit Install Guide

Verify your components

  1. Included equipment:
    • SmartSense B Gateway
    • Power Cable (12 V/battery to Gateway Connector)
    • SmartSense B Sensor(s)
  2. Additional equipment required (not included):
    • Zip Ties
    • Mounting Screws
    • Silicone Sealant

Installation guidelines

  1. The following table describes where to install each B Gateway component, as it relates to a 3-zone installation

Install the B Gateway

  1. Install the B Gateway on the inside of the refrigeration cabinet or on the external wall of the trailer next to the refrigeration cabinet

To install the B Gateway inside of the refrigeration cabinet:

  1. Secure the gateway approximately ½ to ¾ of the way to the top of the cabinet and make sure it is stable and cannot move or come loose
    • Connect the 3/8 inch ring terminals to the 12 V battery terminals in the refrigeration unit
    • Note: The red wire connects to the positive (+) terminal of the battery; the black wire connects to the ground (-) terminal of the battery
    • Verify the gateway power LED:
      • Solid green LED on Late Model (Cellular) Gateways indicates power
      • If No Power, make sure the cable ring terminals are securely connected to the battery
    • Run the cable along the inside wall of the refrigeration unit and use zip ties to secure excess cable length.
    • Use screws to secure the gateway approximately ½ to ¾ of the way to the top of the refrigeration cabinet
    • Typically, you can secure it to a crossbar or screw it to the back wall of the reefer cabinet
    • Verify that the gateway is tightly fastened so that it cannot move or come loose
    • Make note of the gateway ID (such as F001234) and the trailer Number/ID that it is installed in
    • This information will be needed for updating the SafeTemps dashboard with Trailer Number/ID information

To install the B Gateway on the exterior wall (outside of the reefer cabinet):

  1. Secure the gateway approximately ½ to ¾ of the way to the top, to the exterior wall of the trailer using machine tap screws
    • Mark the mounting hole locations
    • Drill or punch a pilot hole for the tap screws
    • Apply silicone sealant to the pilot holes
    • Mount the gateway to the trailer wall using the tap screws
    • Run the cable along the wall of the refrigeration unit and use zip ties to secure excess cable length
    • Connect the 3/8 inch ring terminals to the 12 V battery terminals in the refrigeration unit.
    • Note: The red wire connects to the positive (+) terminal of the battery; the black wire connects to the ground (-) terminal of the battery
    • Verify the gateway power LED:
      • Solid green LED on Late Model (Cellular) Gateways indicates power
    • Make note of the gateway ID (such as F001234) and the trailer ID it is installed in
    • This information will be needed for updating the SafeTemps dashboard with Trailer Number/ID information

Install the temperature sensors

  1. Install the B Sensors inside and toward the top of the trailer, away from the load or other objects that could knock them out of place
    • Install a B Sensor in the first zone of the trailer
      • Note: Install the sensor with the lowest ID number into Zone 1 and the highest ID number into Zone 3
      • This allows the system to auto-configure the order of installed sensors
    • Use a zip tie or screw to secure the sensor high in the box and as close to the refrigeration unit as possible, such as on a refrigeration line
      • A common mounting location for the zone 1 sensor is on the side of the reefer return air shield

    • Make note of the B Sensor ID, corresponding B Gateway ID, trailer ID, and its location (for example, Zone 1 or Trailer Nose)
      • Install additional sensors for each zone of the trailer
